Cornish Wood Works

We are a husband and wife team based in Boscastle.

About five years ago we set up a small workshop at our home and made various items from recycled / reclaimed wood. During that time we started to experiment making things from retired barrels.

They are made of oak and may have been used for 50-60 years in the distillery of whisky and wine so have amazing life stories before we re-work them into useful everyday objects. They can be different sizes, show a lifetime of work and each one is completely individual.

Sometimes challenging to work with but
we love them and think their stories run over into the items we produce; no one product is ever identical to the next.

Sometimes our barrel heads will have wine or whisky producers cask marks branded into them and the metal we use to enhance our items is taken from the metal bands surrounding the barrel.

We are always thinking of new products to make, given the limitations of curved wood but we have a core range of items we make and are happy to reproduce these for you if requested but remember every item will be slightly different in character and individual.

We use oils and waxes to enhance and protect the wood and only use food safe oil on items used for food.

We hope you love our barrels as much as we do.
