Rico Jordi-Slater Blacksmith

I am Cornwall bread, having grown up near Crackington Haven always in touch with nature, and tools, and fire… I’ve always had a creative output, using whatever tools and materials were available to me. I attended the Artist Blacksmithing BA Hons at Hereford College of Arts where I explored sculpting in steel.

I now work from Morwellham Quay forge, hand forging utensils, sculptures, taking commissions and teaching my craft. It’s a pleasure to be keeping the ancient craft alive.

I love iron, it’s an incredibly versatile and robust material, extremely hard and strong at first glance but when heated it shows its soft, forgiving side, generally unseen. Iron and steel objects can be made, unmade, remade, reformed, again and again into so many things. Look around you day to day, and notice how much of our lives are accompanied by iron and steel and what we would not have without it.
